
Andrew King is a senior music education major at Iowa State University who plays bass trombone. He currently studies bass trombone under Professor Nathan Dishman. Andrew has a variety of experience in regards to ensembles. He has been involved in several musical ensembles at Iowa State University, such as: CySlides Trombone Choir, Percussion Ensemble, State Storm, ISUCF’V’MB, Men’s Basketball Pep Band, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, jazzONE, and the Iowa State Wind Ensemble. During the summers, he plays in the Ames Municipal Band. All of these ensembles have given him great experience with different genres of music, from classical, to jazz, to modern and popular music.
Andrew has taken several methods classes at Iowa State University. He offers beginning band lessons on flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, and trumpet. Along with that, he also offers more advanced lessons on tuba, euphonium, trombone, and bass trombone.
Andrew likes to focus on music fundamentals because they are foundational to making great musicians. One of the biggest focuses is how students use their air to create sound; there are a wide variety of breathing exercises that he likes to use to help students develop this sound.
