Din Terzic

Piano

Din Terzic is a piano student teacher at Lott Music Studio. Growing up, piano lessons were his biggest extracurricular activity besides soccer. Once he got to middle school, he joined choir and started playing trumpet in band. He continued honing his general musicianship and kept up with these instruments. By the end of high school he made it into the Iowa All-State Jazz Festival and became Drum Major as well as traveling with the premier choir and show choir at his school. He knew going into college he wanted to do music in college and when deciding which instrument, piano came out on top! He is currently a student of Dr. Mei-Hsuan Huang at Iowa State University. He has also taken Piano Pedagogy class with Dr. Janci Bronson and frequently uses her as a resource. He is also involved with the ISU Jazz band and Opera Studio ensembles.

When teaching lessons, Din hopes to strike a good balance between work and play. Music is a skill that needs to be honed through repetition, hard work, and tedious techniques but is also an art used to express the deepest parts of us. As the teacher, Din hopes he can not only improve the students technical ability but show them fun sides of music they may not normally encounter in other parts of their lives. He believes that the better the student is the more fun they can have and so he will not shy away from the harder parts but rather show that the hard stuff directly correlates with the fun stuff. If a student shows an interest in a particular style or performance piece he will certainly be open to playing it because it will make the process more rewarding for the student. Din is a big proponent of understanding theory with the song and will always incorporate theory into whatever him and the student are working on.
