Kalam Mester is the Facilities Manager and an Admin Assistant at Lott Music Studio.
Originally from Davenport, Kal is a native Iowan through and through. Growing up in the Quad Cities, Kalam found himself making music in band, marching band, and choir; discovering his affinity for science (especially when it comes to animals); and volunteering his time for different organizations in his community. Through service trips and volunteer work, he learned the importance of hard work and the value of community. All of these things propelled him forward through life, eventually landing him in Ames for further education. At Iowa State University, Kal began studying Animal Ecology. Through his classes and his involvement in choir, he gradually built up a community of friends and support away from his hometown.
As a member of the team at Lott Music Studio, Kal not only works to maintain the quality and cleanliness of the space, but he steps into an administrative position to support the rest of the team whenever necessary. From assistance with scheduling to keeping documents and data sets updated and current, Kalam makes sure nothing falls through the cracks. With the recent expansion of the studio on the first floor, Kal played a key role in updating the space and adapting it to our needs. He makes sure the plants stay watered, the bathrooms stay clean, and the studio stays a bright, organized, and beautiful place where everyone wants to continue to make music.
Outside of the studio, Kal loves spending time with his friends and his cat, Aika. With the free time he can find in his schedule, Kal enjoys playing video games, trying out new recipes, and learning new hobbies and skills. In quiet moments out in nature, you can find Kal listening to bird calls and trying to identify them.
