Lott Music Studio · Ames, Iowa Questions about this policy: info@lottmusicstudio.com · (515) 815-2537
Last updated: August 20, 2026
This policy covers lottmusicstudio.com — what information the website collects, what it’s used for, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what you type into the contact form so we can reply to you, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, and we don’t sell or share your information with anyone for advertising. We built the site to keep as much as possible on our own server instead of handing your visit to third parties.
1. Information you give us
The contact form. When you send us a message, we receive what you enter: your name, email address, phone number, the lesson and teacher you’re interested in, and your message. We use it for exactly one thing – responding to your enquiry and arranging lessons. The submission is emailed to the studio and a copy is kept in the website’s own inbox, where it is automatically deleted after 18 months. We may keep the email correspondence itself for as long as we have an ongoing relationship with you.
The student & parent portal. Families enrolled at the studio can sign in to a private portal. Signing in uses standard WordPress login cookies, which exist only for portal users and only while signed in. The information available in the portal relates to your enrollment with the studio.
We don’t have comment sections, user registration for the public site, or any other place the website asks you for personal information.
2. Analytics
We use Google Analytics (via Google Site Kit) to understand how the site is used – which pages are visited and which actions, like tapping our phone number or sending the contact form, happen. It gives us aggregate counts: how many people visited, which lessons draw interest, whether the contact page is working. It is never used to identify you personally and never combined with your contact-form details, and we use it for no other purpose.
If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we treat that as an opt-out automatically – the site’s own event tracking stays off for your visit, with no action needed from you. You can also block Google Analytics entirely with Google’s own opt-out browser add-on or any content blocker; every feature of this site works exactly the same without it.
3. Cookies and browser storage
We keep this list deliberately short:
| Name | What it is | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* | Cookies (Google) | Google Analytics usage measurement | Up to 2 years (per Google) |
| WordPress login cookies | Cookies | Keeping portal users signed in — portal users only | Session / up to 14 days |
lmsTheme | Browser storage | Remembers your light/dark mode choice | Until you clear it |
lmsPromo | Browser storage | Remembers that you dismissed the announcement bar | Until you clear it |
The two “browser storage” entries never leave your device — they’re preferences your own browser holds, and they are not sent to us or to anyone else.
4. Third parties – and what we deliberately keep away from them
We designed the site so that visiting it doesn’t quietly connect your browser to other companies:
- The map on our contact page is an image served from our own server — viewing it sends nothing to Google. If you click “Load interactive map,” the Google Maps embed loads at that point, and Google may set cookies; the button says so before you click.
- Videos use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com) and Vimeo with “do not track” enabled — no tracking cookies unless and until you press play.
- Google reviews shown on the site are fetched by our server on a schedule and displayed from our server. Your browser never contacts Google to see them. The reviews are public content their authors posted on Google, where they can edit or remove them.
- Our Instagram feed works the same way: our server fetches the posts and stores the images in our own media library. Viewing the site sends nothing to Instagram or Meta. Clicking a post takes you to instagram.com, which is then subject to Instagram’s own policies.
- Fonts are hosted on our own server — no font provider sees your visit.
What we don’t do at all: we don’t sell or rent your information, we don’t share it for advertising, we run no ad networks, and we don’t use fingerprinting or cross-site tracking of any kind.
5. Children
Many of our students are children, but this website is directed at parents and adult students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children online – the contact form and portal are intended to be used by a parent or guardian (or an adult student). If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the site, contact us and we will delete it.
6. How long we keep things
Contact-form submissions stored on the website are deleted automatically after 18 months. Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics for 14 months. Email correspondence and enrollment records are kept as long as needed for our relationship with you and any legal record-keeping requirements.
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, sends modern browser security protections with every page, limits who at the studio can see form submissions, and — as described above — deletes them on a schedule rather than keeping them forever. No website can promise perfect security, but we’ve built this one so there is simply less of your data sitting around to protect.
8. Service providers
The website is hosted by GoDaddy, whose servers keep standard technical logs of website requests, and our email – including messages you send us through the contact form – is handled through Google Workspace (Gmail). Google provides analytics and the review content described above; Meta provides the Instagram content our server fetches. Each processes data per its own privacy policy; none of them receives your contact-form details.
9. Your choices and rights
You can opt out of analytics with Global Privacy Control, Do Not Track, Google’s opt-out add-on, or any content blocker – every feature of the site works the same either way. You can ask us at any time what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it: email info@lottmusicstudio.com and we’ll respond promptly. Depending on where you live, these may also be legal rights; we honor such requests regardless of where you’re from.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
